Summer Haze is one of the earliest works about light. (That is in these series I guess I have always been chasing light and gesture). The thin stems of the Mallee gums with the evening sunlight magnified through the trees at sun down. It is hot, a dry Mallee heat, that makes the horizon shimmer with heat waves, dries out the grass to straw and steams the eucalypts so the air is filled with scent.
